Marbella is the Costa del Sol at its most sophisticated — a resort town that has successfully positioned itself at the luxury end of European beach tourism while retaining a genuinely beautiful historic quarter that predates the resort economy by several centuries. The Golden Mile, the stretch of coast between Marbella and Puerto Banús, contains some of the finest hotels and restaurants in southern Spain.
Warum Marbella & Golden Mile besuchen
The old quarter of Marbella — Plaza de los Naranjos, the whitewashed streets behind it, the castle walls — is one of the best-preserved Andalusian town centres on the coast, and it is free and largely crowd-free before 11am. Puerto Banús is the spectacle that everyone comes to see at least once. The dining along the Golden Mile is the best on the coast — serious kitchens with serious ingredients and a clientele that expects both.

May, June, and September are ideal — the weather is perfect, the sea warm, and the summer peak has not arrived or has just passed. July and August are intensely alive but expensive and crowded. Winter in Marbella is surprisingly pleasant — mild, quiet, and full of long-stay residents who know exactly why they are here.
Nova Insider
The best meal in Marbella is not at a hotel restaurant on the Golden Mile — it is at El Estrecho, a tiny tapas bar in the old quarter that has been serving the same dishes since 1954. Arrive at 1pm when it opens, order the tortillita de camarones and the jamón, and stand at the bar with a cold Cruzcampo. It costs almost nothing and is better than anywhere with a Michelin star on the coast.
