Mykonos & Delos — Boutique Hotels & Travel Guide
Mykonos is the most cosmopolitan island in Greece — a small Cycladic island of extraordinary beauty that has become one of the Mediterranean's premier party destinations without entirely losing the whitewashed village character that made it famous in the first place. Delos, a tiny uninhabited island a short boat ride away, is one of the most important archaeological sites in the ancient world — the mythological birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, its ruins spreading across the entire island.
Warum Mykonos & Delos besuchen
The old town of Mykonos — Chora — is one of the finest Cycladic villages in Greece, its maze of whitewashed lanes designed to confuse pirates and now confusing tourists with equal success. The beaches on the southern coast — Psarou, Platis Gialos, Paradise — are the most social in Greece. Delos is unmissable for anyone with an interest in antiquity — the scale of the ruins, the mosaics, and the views across the Cyclades from the summit of Mount Kynthos are extraordinary.
Beste Reisezeit
June and September are the finest months — warm, social, and manageable. July and August are the peak party season — extraordinary if that is what you are seeking, overwhelming if it is not. Mykonos in May is a revelation: the town is beautiful, the beaches are empty, and the restaurants are not yet in summer mode.
Nova Insider
Take the first boat to Delos in the morning — it departs at 9am from the old port — and spend three hours on the island before the afternoon boats arrive. The site is large enough and the archaeology significant enough that three hours feels inadequate; with the morning light on the marble and no other visitors, it feels like a private museum. The last boat back is at 3pm — do not miss it.
