Slovenian Alps — Boutique Hotels & Travel Guide
The Slovenian Alps are the Alps' best-kept secret — a country-sized mountain playground where the scenery rivals anything in Switzerland or Austria at a fraction of the cost, and where the crowds of the western resorts simply do not exist. Lake Bled is the postcard image, but the Slovenian Alps run deeper — into the Triglav National Park, through limestone gorges, and up to peaks that offer views across four countries.
Warum Slovenian Alps besuchen
Lake Bled, with its island church and clifftop castle, is one of the most genuinely beautiful places in Europe — not just photographically but in person. The Vintgar Gorge, a 1.6km walk along a wooden boardwalk above a turquoise river, takes ninety minutes and costs almost nothing. Kranjska Gora is a small, excellent ski resort with a fraction of the crowds and prices of the Austrian resorts across the border.
Beste Reisezeit
June through September for hiking and lake swimming — Lake Bled reaches 26°C in summer. December through March for skiing at Kranjska Gora. The shoulder seasons of May and October are excellent for the mountains without the summer crowds. Slovenia in autumn, with the forests turning, is exceptionally beautiful.
Nova Insider
Rent a traditional wooden pletna boat at Lake Bled and row yourself to the island — the boatmen charge considerably more for the same trip. The island church has 99 steps and a bell that grants wishes to anyone who rings it three times while holding their breath. This is, obviously, a local legend with no basis in fact, but everyone does it anyway.
