Dubrovnik Riviera — Boutique Hotels & Travel Guide
Dubrovnik is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe — a walled city of limestone streets, Baroque churches, and Renaissance palaces built on a rocky peninsula above the Adriatic. The city walls, walkable in their entirety in about two hours, enclose a living city of extraordinary beauty that has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. The surrounding Riviera extends along the coast and to the nearby Elafiti Islands.
Pourquoi visiter Dubrovnik Riviera
Walk the walls at dawn before the cruise ship passengers arrive — the view from the southern ramparts over the terracotta rooftops and the open sea is one of the finest urban panoramas in Europe. The old town is best explored in the early morning and evening when the day-trippers are absent. The cable car to Mount Srđ above the city offers the definitive overview. Kayaking around the city walls at sunset is a genuinely extraordinary experience.
Quand visiter
May and June are ideal — the city is beautiful, the sea warm enough to swim, and the summer crowds not yet at their peak. September and October are equally excellent. July and August are intensely crowded — the cruise ships bring thousands of visitors daily and the narrow streets become very difficult. Winter is quiet, mild, and the most authentic time to experience the city.
Nova Insider
The beach at Šulić, a ten-minute walk east of the old town along the coastal path, is almost entirely unknown to tourists — a series of flat rocks above clear water where locals swim year-round. Take the path past the Hotel Excelsior, past the small beach club at Banje, and continue until the path narrows and the crowds disappear. This is where Dubrovnik residents actually swim.
