The Best Hidden Courtyard Hotels in Berlin

Berlin’s architectural sequence is often found past the street-facing façade, through the gate, and into the courtyard. In neighbourhoods like Mitte, the city’s public energy recedes with each step down a passageway. The sound shifts from traffic to the quiet echo of shoes on a terrazzo floor. This sensibility is defined by turning inward. Natural light is drawn down from above, illuminating spaces set back from the public thoroughfare. It is a design principle based not on the outward view, but on the careful composition of an interior world away from the city’s immediate register.
