Chef Rainer Becker’s ROKA brings its unique Japanese robatayaki concept to Riyadh
Recognised the world over for its contemporary Japanese robatayaki cuisine, ROKA is set to open its first restaurant in Riyadh. Located in the fashionable Asir area, in the heart of Riyadh, ROKA Riyadh will be an exciting new addition to the city’s burgeoning culinary scene. The new restaurant will feature the brand’s signature concept, offering a diverse menu of robata-grilled dishes, sushi, and sashimi in a vibrant and sophisticated setting. With a design that blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with contemporary Arabian elements, ROKA Riyadh aims to create a unique dining experience for its guests. The menu features some of ROKA’s most popular dishes, including the famed black cod marinated in yuzu miso, and the kampachi sashimi with truffle ponzu. There will also be an extensive selection of expertly crafted cocktails and sake.
A Global Culinary Journey: From London to Riyadh
ROKA’s journey began in London in 2004, with its first restaurant on Charlotte Street. Founded by celebrated chef Rainer Becker, the restaurant quickly gained critical acclaim for its innovative approach to Japanese robatayaki cuisine. Its success led to the opening of several other locations across London, as well as international outposts in Dubai, Istanbul, and now Riyadh. Each ROKA restaurant is designed to reflect the local culture and aesthetics of its surroundings, while maintaining the brand’s signature style and culinary philosophy. The expansion into Riyadh marks a significant milestone for ROKA, as it continues to bring its unique dining experience to new audiences around the world. The restaurant is scheduled to open in Q3 2024, and anticipation is already building among food enthusiasts in the city and beyond.
The Art of Robatayaki: A Culinary Tradition Reimagined
At the heart of the ROKA dining experience is the robata grill, a traditional Japanese cooking method that involves grilling food over hot charcoal. This technique, originally used by Japanese fishermen to cook their catch on the boats, has been elevated to an art form at ROKA. Chef Rainer Becker and his team have reimagined this ancient tradition, creating a menu that is both authentic and contemporary. The robata grill takes centre stage in the restaurant, allowing diners to watch the chefs in action as they expertly prepare a variety of dishes, including succulent seafood, perfectly grilled meats, and seasonal vegetables. This interactive dining experience, combined with the restaurant’s vibrant atmosphere and exceptional service, makes ROKA a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a memorable culinary adventure.
